Aromatherapy

Do you suffer from anxiety at the thought of a visit to the dental office? Would you like to improve your smile, but you are scare of the dentist? Fear of dentists and dentistry is a common and potentially distressing problem, both for the public and for dental practitioners. Anxiety can strike a lot of people at the thought of a visit to the dental office, even if it is a routine visit.

Dental anxiety is considered to be the main barrier to successful completion of dental treatment.

At Dental Care Institute, we can help you to free yourself from this anxiety by incorporating Aromatherapy with Certified Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils into our practice.

Aromatherapy can be defined as the skilled and controlled use of essential oils for physical and emotional health and well-being. Science is now confirming what has been known for centuries: essential oils have healing properties on both physical and emotional levels. They have been considered among the most therapeutic and rejuvenating of all botanical extracts throughout the ages.

Essential oils work through the olfactory nerve, a direct extension from the limbic system of the brain, to stimulate feelings of confidence or relaxation; sometimes they have a mild sedative effect, which may help reduce feelings of anxiety in dental phobics.

At Dental Care Institute, we have found that diffusing calming oils such as Lavender, Wild Orange, Lime or Vanilla improves mood and reduces anxiety for our patients and staff. Several companies combine essential oils for a synergistic effect. At Dental Care Insitute we have been using special blends of essential oils, such as Serenity, Joy, OnGuard and Breathe, to help relieve nervous tension and stress, while boosting the immune system and improving the quality of the air.

For the very anxious patient, calming oils can be applied to the palms and inhaled before a dental visit or applied directly to the temples, back of the neck and wrists.

If patients are not allergic or susceptible to asthma or bronchitis, an essential oil can be dropped sparingly on a patient bib to help him or her to relax. We can try this for you to create a more modern and relaxing dental experience.

Aromatherapy using high quality essential oils has been around since ancient times. “Modern medicine” has disregarded essential oils healing properties in favor of synthetic drugs and surgery. Today, as people seek more natural approaches to health care, essential oil use is growing in popularity as the public as well as doctors rediscover their many beneficial uses. We are proud to have incorporated essential oils into our integrative dental practice.

Our patients and our staff are happy to experience a refreshing atmosphere, free of odors caused by usual dental procedures. At Dental Care Institute, we always have our patients needs and concerns in mind. That is why we have made patient relaxation and comfort our top priority. We also offer:

  • Cervical neck pillow: May be placed behind your neck for comfort while sitting in the dental chair.
  • Blanket: Warm yourself with a soft cozy blanket during your appointment.
  • Personal aromatherapy: Essential oils may be placed on your bib so you can inhale the therapeutic effects during your procedure. Choose a relaxing or energizing scent to enhance your mood.
  • Finish your visit with a warm face towel: Let us refresh you with a lightly scented warm, moist face towel after your visit.
  • Gourmet Coffee, Tea, Chocolate, Starbucks Refreshers & Bottled Water: Enjoy a warm or cold drink when you arrive, or after your dental care.

While all  these services are complimentary, they are also optional. Please feel free to enjoy as much or as little as you want!
